Review Appointments with Dr Michael Hatzifotis
After weight loss surgery, you will be required to see Dr Michael Hatzifotis for Review Consultations at 3 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months and then every 6 -12 months annually to help manage your health post-surgery.
All post-operative review consultations will be bulk billed after your surgery.
Our Administrative team will book your review appointments for you at your post op appointment with Dr Hatzifotis.

3 Week Post Op Review Consultation
Includes:
- Post-surgery Review - 3 weeks after surgery
- 15 minute consultation
- No charge
- Assessment and examination
- Review how you are managing after surgery
- Your wounds will be assessed and any other issues will be discussed
- Next Review appointment will be scheduled for 3 months post-surgery
3 Month Review Consultation
Includes:
- 3 months post-surgery Review
- 15 minute consultation
- No charge – bulk billed with valid GP referral
- Assessment and examination
- Review & monitor post-surgery pathology
- Next Review appointment may be scheduled for 6 months post-surgery with Dr Tarn Montagu, our Bariatric specialist GP
6 & 9 Month Review Consultations
Includes:
- 6 & 9 months Post-surgery Reviews
- May be scheduled with Dr Tarn Montagu - our Bariatric specialist GP
- 15 minutes Consultation
- No charge – bulk billed with valid GP referral
- Assessment and examination
- Review & monitor post-surgery pathology
- Next Review appointment will be scheduled for 12 months post-surgery with Dr Hatzifotis
12 Month & Annual Review Consultations
Includes:
- 12 months Post-surgery Review

- A 6 month Review may be scheduled with Dr Tarn Montagu, our Bariatric specialist GP

Post-op Appointments with our Multi-Disciplinary Team
After surgery, you will be required to see Dr Hatzifotis' Dietitians and Psychologists to review and assess how you are managing after surgery.
Our Dietitians and Psychologist will provide further support and guidance to help you through the next phase of your weight loss journey.

You will be required to see our Dietitians 1 - 2 weeks after surgery for your post-op review and then again at 6 weeks post surgery and then every 3 - 6 months.
The post-op consultations with our Dietitians are extremely important to attend so they can review your symptoms and tolerance of foods/liquids after surgery.
Our Dietitians will assess your fluids and protein and troubleshoot any issues after surgery.
Our Dietitians will give individualised advice on Vitamin and Mineral supplement requirements based on your blood results. They will review your weight loss goals and will provide you with individualised meal ideas.
Medicare Rebate for Dietitian Consult:
To be eligible for a Medicare rebate, our Dietitians require a special referral from your GP, either a 'Chronic Condition Management Plan' or an 'Eating Disorder Plan'.
It is advisable that you discuss your options with your GP and confirm your eligibility and how many sessions will be covered by this plan.
Private Health Fund Rebate for Dietitian Consult:
You may be eligible for a rebate through your Extras cover with your Private Health Fund.
As the levels of Private cover may vary, so do the rebates. To check your eligibility, you will need to contact your Health Fund.

- Individualised Nutritional Counselling on Puree and Soft dietary Phase
- Individualised meal ideas to suit each phase
- Individualised vitamin and mineral supplement requirements based on pathology results
- Guidance and motivation to help manage lifestyle changes
- Next Review appointment scheduled for 6 weeks post-surgery
5 - 6 Weeks Post-Op Review Consultation

- 5-6 weeks post-surgery Review
- 30 minute consultation
- $90 fee (as at 1st Jan 2025)
- Chronic Condition Management Plan accepted - $61.80 Medicare rebate (as at Jul 2025)
- Review recovery and tolerance of texture modified diet & Puree Phase
- Assess Nutritional adequency of diet (eg: adequate total fluids and protein)
- Review weight loss progress
- Troubleshoot issues
- Individualised Nutritional Counselling on transitioning to Solid Food Phase and long term dietary recommendations
- Ongoing Counselling about vitamin and mineral supplement requirements
- Individualised meal ideas to suit each phase
- Education, guidance & support to help you build a healthy dietary routine
- Next Review appointment scheduled for 3 months post-surgery

Our Psychologist will continue to support you after surgery and will offer you mindful strategies to successfully manage the transition and to achieve the best results from your procedure. Your Post-op review appointment will be scheduled 4 - 8 weeks after your surgery.
Our Psychologist welcomes patients both new and old and offers ongoing support at every stage of your Weight Loss journey.
Our Psychologist also provides ongoing support for other mental health, behavioural, and emotional challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, and relationship issues, if it would benefit you.
Medicare Rebate:
To be eligible for a Medicare rebate, our Psychologist requires a special referral from your GP, either a 'Chronic Condition Management Plan', an 'Eating Disorder Plan' or a 'Mental Health Treatment Plan'.
