Surgeon
Dr Michael Hatzifotis is a General Surgeon and specialises in Bariatric Surgery. He is extensively trained in the full spectrum of Bariatric (Weight Loss) procedures, including Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy, Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, Laparoscopic Mini Gastric Bypass, Laparoscopic Revisional Weight Loss surgery and Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding surgery procedures. He has performed more than 5,000 Bariatric procedures since 2008.
Over the past 15 years, Dr Hatzifotis has visited many Hospitals throughout the United States, Europe, New Zealand and Australia and has continued to develop and improve his practice and techniques to provide his patients with the most current and up to date advances in Metabolic and Weight loss Surgery.
Dr Hatzifotis is highly committed to educating and teaching other doctors to ensure the highest of standards are maintained in diagnosing and treating Obesity. He currently holds the position of
Chair of Education and Training for the Australian and New Zealand Metabolic & Obesity Surgery Society (ANZMOSS) and has been a Committee Board Member since 2017.
Dr Hatzifotis has been a Senior Lecturer with the University of Queensland since 2011 and has trained medical students, nurses and doctors at both the Princess Alexandra Hospital and Greenslopes Private Hospital in Brisbane. He is frequently invited to speak at surgical conferences around Australia and has published numerous papers in the medical literature. He has been the Convenor for many Bariatric Surgical Conferences in both Australia and New Zealand and continues to actively research improved outcomes in bariatric surgery as the Chair of the Queensland Bariatric Journal club.
Dr Hatzifotis is not only well known for his extensive surgical skills and experience but for his compassionate nature and dedication to his patients. Dr Hatzifotis together with his team consisting of dietitians, psychologists, endocrinologists, General practitioners and administrative support, work closely together to provide ongoing comprehensive medical treatment and multi disciplinary management of Obesity from the patient’s initial consultation and for years following surgery.
Dr Hatzifotis also has a keen interest in all aspects of General surgery and common procedures performed include Laparoscopic Gastrointestinal and General surgical procedures, including Laparoscopic and Open Hernia repair, Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy and Common Bile Duct exploration, Laparoscopic Fundoplication and Hiatus Hernia repair.
