Uninsured/Self-Funded Weight Loss Surgery Costs
BARIATRIC SURGERY WITH NO PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE
You must have Top Gold cover with a Private Health Fund to be eligible to have Weight Loss surgery at Greenslopes Private Hospital.
If you do not have Gold cover, then you will be responsible to pay for the full costs of the surgery, including the Hospital's, the Surgeon's, the Anaesthetist's and the Assistant Surgeon's fees.
As an Uninsured or self-funded patient, you will face significant out-of-pocket expenses, however, you may choose the following options to help fund your surgery:
- Self Funded - If you have the available funds to pay for the costs associated with surgery, then you may use your own funds to pay the out-of-pocket fees upfront. See the fees below for an estimate of costs involved. Medicare Rebates apply.
- Medicare Rebate - Medicare will provide some rebates for Bariatric surgery and will cover a portion of the Surgeon's fee based on the relevant Medicare item number for the procedure performed. See the fees below for applicable rebates
- Get Private Health Insurance/Upgrade to Gold Cover - Become a member of a Health Fund and serve the 12 month wait period or increase your Health cover to include Bariatric surgery
- Superannuation - Apply for Early Release of Superannuation on compassionate grounds, to cover the costs of surgery. The ATO has a strict application process and you must meet the eligibility criteria. The Out-of-Pocket Costs outlined below are ESTIMATES ONLY and will vary depending on the providers, how many visits with the provider, length of procedure, length of stay, if ICU is required and if any rebates apply.
